Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to what organisers ask us most.

In most cases, yes. Councils, venues and many grant bodies require proof of Public Liability before confirming your booking. Zipcova issues your Certificate of Currency instantly so you can secure approvals without delay.

For a deeper dive on why Public Liability matters — beyond regulatory or venue requirements — you can read our Event Liability Guide.

Zipcova covers a wide range of events — from community gatherings and workshops to markets, expos, festivals and cultural events. Cover includes site visits, planning meetings, setup and pack-down during the policy period.

You can explore the full list of supported event categories here (no personal info needed):

The underwriting behind Zipcova is supported by claims data from 90,000+ events across 40+ countries. This means most common event categories — when selected from the defined list — can be safely assessed with just the basics: event type, location, dates and attendance.

This is why the event list in the quote form is predefined. It ensures only categories that can be confidently insured instantly are shown, without sending organisers through a long approval loop.

(If your event doesn’t neatly fit one category, see question 5.)

For a broader comparison of how this supports one-off (PAYG) vs annual cover, you can read our guide One-Off vs Annual Event Insurance: What Organisers Should Know.

To keep instant pricing fast and accurate, the quote form only displays event categories that can be underwritten safely using portfolio data.

If your event falls outside those categories, it may still be insurable — it simply won’t appear in the instant system.

(If you want something specific or unusual considered, see question 5.)

Often, yes. If your event category isn’t listed, or you have a unique element you’d like reviewed, we’re happy to take a look.

Contact us at hello@zipcova.com and include a brief description of your event.

Yes — typical event inclusions like food vendors, licensed areas, live music and stallholders are already handled within our normal underwriting rules.

However, Zipcova does not insure vendors, stallholders, performers, amusement operators or any other Service Providers. They must hold their own Public Liability insurance.

Our policy requires:
  • Service Providers (e.g., security firms, amusements, entertainers, food vendors, labour hire, venues, production companies) to hold at least $20 million Public Liability cover.
  • Stallholders to hold at least $10 million Public Liability cover.
  • Anyone serving alcohol on behalf of the organiser must hold RSA certification (Responsible Service of Alcohol).
This ensures your event meets insurer conditions and remains fully compliant.

(Employees and volunteers do not fall under this rule.)

You can read more about supplier and vendor responsibilities in our Event Liability Guide.

Yes. PAYG applies for the entire policy period you select — including site visits, planning meetings, setup and pack-down, not just the event days.

Yes. Our Certificates of Currency are accepted just like any other A+ rated insurer, and they’re available instantly once you bind cover.

All Zipcova instant-quote policies provide $20 million Public Liability, which meets the requirements of councils and most venues.

If you require a higher limit (e.g. $50 million), we can arrange this through our manual pathway — contact hello@zipcova.com.

Just reach out — many changes are simple. If your event date shifts or is cancelled, we’ll walk you through your options, including credits or refunds where applicable.
